Wanda K. Hartmann is a chemist and freelance science writer living in the greater Chicago, IL area.  She graduated from Michigan State University with a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry.  After completing a postdoc at the Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology in Maryland, she went on to develop biopharmaceutical products at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) - Scientific Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Subsequent to NCI-SAIC, Dr. Hartmann returned to the Midwest and taught at several colleges including a year as a visiting professor at Beloit College (2005-6). In 2007, she was employed by Ball Horticultural studying metabolism and physiology of flowering plants and seeds.  Currently, she is actively involved in the writing and science community in Chicago and volunteers for the Chicago section of the American Chemical Society, Chicago Science Writers, Society for Applied Spectroscopy and Iota Sigma Pi, an honor society for women chemists.  Wanda got her start writing on Helium, an online freelance site and is a guest writer for Xact Resource Consulting and iBIO. In addition, she has developed two websites for local organizations:  iotasigmapi-chicago.org and chicagosciencewriters.org
